While many purple basil strains (Ocimum basilicum) are quick to bolt (flower, then seed), Amethyst Improved is more in line with other green Genovese-types. Plants produce broad, dark purple foliage that's slightly spicier than green types, but the plants are also hardier and tend to hold longer in the garden. This is a totally practical strain for everyday use.
